Animal massage & Energy Work

until one has loved an animal…

a part of one’s soul remains unawakened…

Bodywork for animals has become an integral part of their healthcare and maintenance, as a complement to veterinary medicine. Much like the work I do with people, animals can also benefit tremendously from regular bodywork. I get the best results using subtle techniques from Myofascial Release and Cranial Sacral while blending in Reiki and Healing Touch for Animals.

These techniques create a relaxation response in animals, and calming the animal initiates physiology that supports the immune system. “When an animal relaxes, the body releases chemicals in the brain, endorphins, that then allow the physical structure of the body to relax even more,” says Carol Komitor, founder of Healing Touch for Animals. “So muscles relax, the body has an ease with itself. And with relaxation, circulation increases, which accelerates blood flow and brings in oxygen, nutrients, adequate hormones, and enzymes to help with rejuvenation of the cells. It also helps flush toxins, establishing a healing environment with the body that ultimately boosts the immune system.”

Energy work also helps neutralize and stabilize the nervous system. When an animal experiences trauma and is unable to naturally process the event, the energy flow gets stuck, and the body starts to compensate for the lack of cellular communication between the body systems. As we now know, traumas can occur from a physical injury or a mental/emotional incident. The goal is to dissolve energy blockages in the tissues that reduce energy flow, create restrictions and immobility, cause pain and irritability, as well as abnormal or difficult behaviors.

These sessions are home/stable visits, where the animals are most comfortable. I will have a brief consultation with you prior to starting the session, and then I will intuitively connect with your animal to establish trust and ask their body what it needs at this time. I will always honor what I get from the animal and follow their guidance. When dogs receive treatment, they will yawn and physically adjust to get more comfortable. Horses often drop their heads and ears and cock a hind foot as if pondering sleep. Sometimes their lips quiver as if they were being tickled. We complete the session, note any changes and review what I experienced during the session.
